Privacy Policy
The short version
- You can read every ViLearn explainer without an account. Signing in is optional and only buys you saved progress.
- We use no cookies and no third-party advertising or tracking scripts.
- We never sell or rent your data, and we never use it to train AI models ourselves. Messages you send the AI tutor are a specific exception worth reading — see section 3.
- Our page analytics store no IP address and no raw browser fingerprint — only a hash that is thrown away and regenerated every day.
- Want your data gone? Email hello@absolutedevs.in and we delete it.
1. Who we are
ViLearn is an interactive engineering-learning platform operated by Absolute Devs. It teaches technical concepts — DNS, Kubernetes, Kafka, gradient descent and others — as visual stories, live simulations and quizzes, with an AI tutor available alongside them. The service is at vilearn.absolutedevs.in.
For any privacy question, or to have your data deleted, contact hello@absolutedevs.in.
2. What we collect when you simply visit
Every page view writes one row to our analytics database. That row contains:
| What | Example | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Timestamp and date | 2026-08-04 | To count traffic over time |
| Page path | /learn/dns | To see which explainers get read |
| Referring website (host only) | google.com | To see where readers arrive from |
| Country | IN | To know which regions to write for |
| Device type | mobile | To prioritise layout work |
| A rotating visitor hash | a3f9… | To tell one reader's two page views apart |
We do not store your IP address, and we do not store your browser's user-agent string. Both are used momentarily, in memory, to compute the visitor hash and to rate-limit abuse — then discarded. The hash mixes in a secret value and the current date, so it changes for everybody at midnight UTC and cannot be used to follow you across days or to work backwards to your identity.
There is no cookie involved in any of this, which is also why you have never seen a cookie banner here.
3. Ask ViLearn — the AI tutor
When you ask the tutor a question, your message and the surrounding lesson context are sent to a third-party AI provider (currently Google Gemini; we may use xAI Grok as an alternative) which generates the reply.
- We do not store your conversations in our own database, and we never use them to train anything of ours.
- Answers may be cached briefly at our edge so that a common question is not re-answered from scratch. The cache key is derived from the lesson context, not from you.
- We do not send the provider your name, your email address, or your account identifier along with the question.
- Once your message reaches the provider, that provider's terms apply, not ours. ViLearn runs on free API tiers, and on those tiers providers — including Google — may review and use submitted content to improve their models. We cannot switch that off on your behalf. If that matters to you, do not use the tutor.
- For the same reason: never paste passwords, API keys, or personal details into the tutor. It is a study aid, not a private channel.
4. If you create an account
Accounts are optional. You can sign in with a magic link sent to your email address, or with Google. There are no passwords on ViLearn — we never ask for one, never set one, and therefore never store one.
What we receive from Google
If you choose Sign in with Google, Google shares only your basic profile: your name, email address, and profile picture. We request nothing else — no access to your Gmail, Drive, Contacts or Calendar.
ViLearn's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use this data only to create and identify your account. We do not sell it, do not transfer it to others except as required to run the service, and do not use it for advertising.
What we store
- Your account identifier and email address.
- A display name and avatar image URL, so the app can greet you as a person rather than an address.
- The anonymous device identifiers you have claimed (see section 5), so learning you did before signing in is not lost.
- Your learning progress, once that feature ships.
Your account row is protected by database-level access rules: one signed-in user can read and change only their own record, never anyone else's.
5. What is stored in your browser
We use your browser's local storage — not cookies — for exactly two things:
- An anonymous device identifier. A random ID generated in your browser the first time you visit. It lets your progress work without an account. It is not linked to any real-world identity, and if you never sign in it never leaves your device except to save progress.
- Your sign-in session, if you have an account, so you are not asked to sign in on every visit.
Clearing your browser storage removes both. If you do that while signed out, any progress tied to that anonymous ID becomes unreachable.
6. Joining the waitlist or writing to us
If you submit the form on our home page, we receive the message you typed and, if you supplied one, your email address. We use it to reply to you and to tell you when the feature you asked about is ready. It is delivered to our own inbox by email and is not added to any marketing list or shared with anyone.
7. Who processes data on our behalf
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, the analytics database, edge caching, abuse protection |
| Supabase | Accounts and sign-in, hosted in the Mumbai (ap-south-1) region |
| Sign in with Google, and the Gemini model behind the AI tutor | |
| xAI | An alternative model for the AI tutor |
| Resend | Sending sign-in emails and delivering your messages to us |
Each acts only on our instructions. None of them is permitted to sell your data.
8. What we never do
- Sell, rent or trade your personal information.
- Run advertising, ad networks, or third-party tracking pixels.
- Set advertising or cross-site cookies.
- Build a profile of you across other websites.
- Hand your data to a model provider for training.
9. How long we keep things
- Analytics rows: kept in aggregate. They contain no identifier that survives past the day they were written.
- Account data: kept while your account exists, and deleted when you ask us to delete it.
- Messages you send us: kept in our inbox until they are no longer needed to answer you.
10. Your choices
- Use ViLearn without an account. Every explainer, simulation and quiz works signed out. Nothing is gated.
- Get your data deleted. Email hello@absolutedevs.in from your account address and we will delete your account and its data.
- Ask what we hold. Same address — we will tell you.
- Disconnect Google. You can revoke ViLearn's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Clear local storage in your browser settings to remove the anonymous device ID and session.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights — to access, correct, export, or object to the handling of your data. Write to us and we will honour them.
11. Children
ViLearn is written for working engineers and students, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will remove it.
12. Security
Traffic is served over HTTPS. Account records are protected by row-level security rules enforced by the database itself, so access is denied by default rather than allowed by default. No system is perfectly secure, but we have designed this one so that the smallest possible amount of personal data exists to be lost.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data we will update this page and move the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the home page.
